Details:

As the 125th anniversary of his birth approaches, it’s natural to appreciate the mathematician Ramanujan for his genius, for the drama of his life’s story, for the esteem he brings to mathematics, and to India.  But it requires only a slight shift of focus, which in this lecture Robert Kanigel offers, to see him not alone as genius but as Everyman, representing the hopes, dreams and strivings of ordinary people the world over.

Robert Kanigel is the author of The Man Who Knew Infinity : A Life of the Genius Ramanujan, a biography of the Indian mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan. The book gives a detailed account of his upbringing in India, his mathematical achievements and his mathematical collaboration with English mathematician G.H. Hardy.

He was a professor of science writing at MIT.

More details about him can be found at  his website http://www.robertkanigel.com.
